My sister Judy collected things. She was somewhat of a packrat to say the least. After her death in 1999 we had the task of cleaning out her two rooms at my mom’s house. It was a job that took days and many truckloads to the local charity thrift shop and the dumpster. There was clothing that she bought over the years bunches that she never wore, magazines, newspapers, massive office supplies, pictures, books and boxes of other things. We kept the office supplies (still have not run out of staples and postit notes) and most of the pictures, but 97% of the stuff was either given away, donated or tossed.

There were a few exceptions. A few treasures that were impossible to part with. In my nightstand I keep her police whistle and tie clasp that she wore when in uniform. Also tucked away at my house is her fingerprint kit and today Julie (the former Mrs. Crose) was cleaning out her closet and found this and asked me if I wanted to keep it or should she throw it out (She knew the answer before she asked). In this box are some of my sisters watches. She had many. In her job as a crime scene investigator time was always very important and she always had on a watch.

I am very sure that none of these watches hold any value. In her line of work she would never wear an expensive watch. It just had to tell time accurately and she did want it to look nice. I have no idea why I am keeping this box of watches. I am sure when I am gone they will get tossed. But seeing them and looking at each one made me think so very nice thoughts about my loving sister

I think I will keep this box in my dresser.
